Ft. Collins Fun...

Adam and I had the chance to go to Ft. Collins, Colorado(Adam's hometown) this past weekend for a couple of reasons.
1. We were attending a celebration of life for Adam's high school history teacher's wife who passed away from cancer.
2. We got to visit Adam's mother (Vicki) and brother (Matt).

I never had the chance to see Adam's hometown before we got married so I was excited to do so. We had a blast!! It was a very short trip, just a weekend but it was better then nothing. We took Nala with us and she had a great time as well. She did amazing on the 7 hr car ride, hardly made a peep. We didn't get there until almost 11 at night on Friday the 16th. We stayed up and visited with Vicki for awhile before going to bed. We woke up the next morning and before heading to the celebration of life we went on a walk on the Spring Creek Trail to Epic park. There was a playground at the park we stopped to play and since we had taken a Frisbee with us we had fun throwing it around to have Nala catch. There was also a set of swings so I had a great time swinging. After the fun park we left Nala with Vicki and headed to the celebration of life in Wellington just a town over from Ft. Collins. It was nice and Adam got to see his high school teacher that he hadn't seen for years and a couple of people from his graduating class. It started raining as soon as the program began and it was held outside so I was glad we had an umbrella. After the program we met Vicki in Old Town Ft. Collins at a restaurant called Bisetti's for lunch it was kinda like Olive Garden here in UT only a lot smaller. It was delicious!! After that the rain stopped and we went around Ft. Collins seeing all the things that mean a lot to Adam. I got to see his old house where he grew up and the swing set his dad made for him and his siblings growing up. I got to see the wetlands where he did his eagle scout project, the field he used to play in as a kid, the paper route he used to do with his bro's, the playground he helped build at his elementary school. We met up with his bro Matt and his girlfriend Ashley during our outing and ended up back in old town Ft. Collins at a place called Coopersmith's pub and brewery, there was an hour wait to eat there so we walked around and ended up getting ice cream from Blue Bell's it was yummy! Matt and Ashley wanted to go to see the puppies at the mall so we went with them and saw the cute puppies. We found a cool game store in the mall so Vicki bought us the game called Pit. We got come dinner at one of Adam's favorite places called Big City Burrito. We then went home and played games. Adam had some homework to do and Vicki had a lesson for church to prepare for so Nala and I chilled while they did that. The next morning before leaving for home we went on another walk on the Spring Creek trail only this time we went the other direction we stopped at a baseball diamond to let Nala off leash to run around. Vicki had church at 12:30 so we left to go home at the same time she left for church and soon were home. Nala did great again on the way home and was pooped from all the activity so she slept most of the way.

It was great to re-open that chapter in Adam's life and to see all the things that are so near and dear to him. I hope we get to go back again this year!!

Nala Neolle @ 8 months

So I haven't blogged Nala's monthly b-day's lately since frankly she doesn't change much from month to month as much as when she was a smaller puppy. She is still is definitely a puppy but her looks and behavior don't change as much now. Believe me she still keeps us on our toes!!
When we took her to the vet on Saturday ( which was her 8th month bday) she weighed 33.6lbs!!! WOW she is getting so big and I want it to stop!! LOL Since we got her at the end of Summer last year she has yet to experience a really Utah summer and so we are excited for the many things she will get to accompany us to this year. Last Sunday we took her to Memory Grove which is a park up behind the state capitol building that allows dogs. We had such a blast and I could just tell Nala was in heaven. She was running around like crazy and about halfway through are visit a couple with a Aussie showed up. Their dog was a year old and was the same color as Nala almost and immediately they began to play together, running around in and out of the creek that runs through Memory Grove. There is a trail the runs up past the grassy part of the park and since that's where the other Aussie ( Sadie was her name) was going we tagged along and just had a grand time. Nala was very well behaved and we can't wait to take her again!!

Were so glad Nala is apart of our family she sure brings love and joy into our lives that nothing else can. She has her moments but the good times far outweigh the unpleasant times. She is the definition of unconditional love and we are so lucky to have her as our puppy!! Love ya girl!!

Step 1 Camera--Step 2 Fork

I was reading a article in The New York Times called "First Camera, Then Fork." I sparked my attention because of the camera part and I like cameras so I began reading it thinking it was probably dumb, but I couldn't stop reading it LOL it was so crazy and something I hadn't heard of ever. The article goes something like this I am only going to paraphrase it but if you want to read the whole article I'm sure if you just search the title it should come up. Anyhow there is a guy named Javier Garcia who is a neuroscientist at the University of California, Irvine, who was sitting at the campus pub recently having a grilled cheese sandwich. But before he took a bite of it he snapped a digital picture of it, cheese artistically oozing between toasted white bread, just has he has photographed EVERYTHING he as eaten in the past 5 years.
(oh my that is just crazy to me!!)

Every other week he posts photos on the website, ejavi.com/javidiet, providing a strangely intimate and unedited view of his life and attracting fans as far away as Ecuador. The nearly 9,000 photos leave nothing out, not even snacks as small as a single square of shredded wheat.

When he lost his iPhone while visiting NY last month, he pleaded with exasperated friends to take pictures of his food and to e-mail them to him, lest his record be incomplete. "It was a nightmare," Mr. Garcia said, particularly because the unfocused pictures "were not the quality I'm used to,"

In 1825 the French philosopher and gourmand Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote, "Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are." Today, people are showing the world what they eat by photographing every meal, revealing themselves perhaps more vividly than they might by merely reciting the names of appetizers and entrees.

Keeping a photographic food diary is a growing phenomenon with everything from truffle-stuffed suckling pig to humble bowls of Cheerios being captured and offered for public consumption. Indeed, the number of pictures tagged "food" on the photo-sharing website Flickr has increased tenfold to more than 6 million in the last 2 years, according to Tara Kirchner, the company's marketing director. One of the largest most active Flickr groups, called "I Ate This" includes more than 300,000 photos that have been contributed by more than 19,000 members. There would be more, but members are limited to 50 photos a month. The same phenomenon can be found on other sites like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Foodspotting, Shutterfly, Chowhound and FoodCandy.

"It used to turn heads if you took a picture of your food, and even I got in trouble if you did that at a few restaurants," he said. "Now it's ubiquitous and just shows that we are in a spastic food era -- we couldn't get more obsessive."

This bemuses Tucker Shaw, the food critic for the Denver Post, who made do with a basic point-and-shoot digital camera to take pictures of everything he ate in 2004; he published the photos in his book, "Everything I Ate: A Year in the Life of My Mouth."

Nonetheless Mr. Shaw said the year he spent photographing his food (and a year was enough for him) resulted in the achingly honest account of his life that revealed far more than the fact that he ate too few leafy green vegetables: "The pictures, I realize now, are incredibly personal, and by looking at them you can probably deduce the type of person I am." Moreover, the pictures set off memories and emotions in a way a written journal could not. "I remember every single day, who I was with, what I was feeling," he said.

Unlike a picture of a flower or friend, a picture of a meal recalls something smelled, touched, tasted and ultimately ingested.

When I finished reading this article (I didn't include all the article only bits and pieces) I was in amazement. I didn't really know what to think as I had never heard of anybody taking pics of their food nor had I seen anyone do it. The amount of dedication it would take to take pictures of everything I ate in a year would be enormous!! I think that photographing your food can become pathological if it interferes with careers or relationships or there's anxiety associated with not doing it, it becomes more than just a silly past time, you become obsessive-compulsive to me that's not worth it. Most days now almost every phone comes with a camera making it easier and faster to take the pictures, no one notices really if you quickly snap a picture of your food. I say if it doesn't become your highest priority then I don't see anything wrong with it but when it comes to the point where if you ever forget your camera and your at a restaurant and you have to leave just to go get your camera before you can eat your food that's when it becomes a problem in my eyes...LOL

So I am going to challenge myself this coming week starting tomorrow the 12th and going until next Monday the 19th. I am going to take pictures of everything I eat just too see what its like to keep up a habit like that. It's not going to be easy but I think I am up for a little challenge and if any of you want to do the same just for fun go ahead. Let me know if you do!! Wish me luck, i'm sure you will see my food posts during the coming days!!

[Volunteer] @ Primary Children's Medical Center

Awhile back I applied to be a volunteer at Primary Children's Medical Center, I hadn't heard anything back so I figured that they had didn't need any volunteer's at that time. On Wednesday the volunteer coordinator called me and said they had an opening for a volunteer to work in the gift shop on Fridays from 12:30-4:30 P.M. she told me to think about and to give her a call back if it was something I wanted to do. You see PCMC holds a special place in my heart, I probably would not be here if it weren't for that hospital. So to get the opportunity to give back...well I jumped at the chance. So on Tuesday (4/13) I go in for orientation and then training. I am excited for this new chapter and for the many amazing people and kids I will get to meet. It's only for 6 months but I can sign back on if I want!! I having a feeling that great things are to come and who knows what will happen... I am looking forward to seeing what does happen.

I will keep the blog updated with the amazing experiences and little ones I get the chance to meet.

Easter [2010]

Adam and I had a pretty laid back Easter Holiday. We decided against getting each other Easter baskets but instead we got a combined gift. We went to lunch at Arby's and then saw Clash of the Titans. I really liked the show, the special effects were great! I would recommend it to anyone above the age of 12 just cause of the violence. We had a great Easter party with my family, we had the traditional sting game ( see last years Easter post if you want to know what the string game is) we had a fabulous dinner that everyone chipped in to help create. It was just a great day for family. Since Adam's family is so far away we didn't get to see them but his mom sent us a cute card with some goodies in it. My mom spoiled us rotten and we got a combined Easter basket with the vintage board game Sorry we have almost collected all of them YAY. She also got us candy and 3 gift cards to different places. Oh at the end of the string game we all got 5 dollar gift cards to Subway...which we used today!! YUM It was just a great weekend all around.
[Here are some pics of the days events]
